Baba Yaga

Baba Yaga is a Nigerian mixed media artist based in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory. Working primarily with tissue paper rolls, acrylic, and found materials, he constructs dimensional portraits that examine identity, power, and selection. Each hollow head is both object and subject: disposable, dimensional, coded with Nsibidi, Adinkra, and personal script. Through series including Which Me Today?, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Red Elder, and Crowned Among 120, he maps the fracture and multiplicity of self. Grids, color fields, and crowns become tools to test who gets marked, who gets seen, and who carries weight. Rooted in material truth, Baba Yaga uses what society discards to speak about what society values. His work exists between sculpture and painting, between the individual and the crowd.
